Burlington-Richard Lee “Rick” Fowler, 69 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Duke University Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 40 years to Myla Riley Fowler who survives.
Rick was born in Burlington, NC and was a 1972 graduate of Hugh M Cummings High School. He received his Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Alamance Community College. He utilized his education towards his career in Textile Management, spending time at Frissell Fabrics, Olympic Narrow Fabrics, and Tex-Fi Industries. He then became a small business owner of Hyco Trading Post in Graham and later, also owned and operated K & J Grill in Alamance. Rick was a fisherman who loved his family and spending time with them at Carolina and Kure Beach. He also enjoyed playing golf with his close friends and coworkers. He was an avid Duke basketball fan, and often referred to Duke as “God’s Country.” Rick was a man of few words with a gentle spirit and a kind soul. He was strong with his hands, and gentle with his touch. Slow to anger. Selfless. Simple. Loyal and committed, he upheld his promises and lead by example. He was a history buff, and a natural born storyteller with a sense of humor that lifted the spirits of those around him. More than anything, he was a devoted brother, husband, father, and grandfather aka “Pappy.”
Survivors include his wife, Myla Riley Fowler of the home; daughters, Kristin Leamnson and husband, Josh of Hampstead, North Carolina and Kaylin Kitts and husband, Elijah of Winston Salem, North Carolina; granddaughter, Ryleigh Rae Kitts; sister, Barbara Fowler Murray and husband, Frank of Wesley Chapel, Florida; nephew, Ryan Hamaker and wife, Dee of Tampa, Florida and great nephews, Gavin and Luke Hamaker both of Tampa, Florida.
