Haw River-Richard Calvin Phillips, age 59, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 18, 2015 at UNC Hospital. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 33years to Diane Gale Sumner Phillips who survives. Richard was the owner and operator of Phillips Heating and Air and a member of Faith Christian Church in Hillsborough. He was a member of the Hyco Hunting Club and was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Diane Gale Sumner Phillips of the home, daughter, Dottie Mann and husband, Derek of Haw River; son, Calvin Phillips and wife, Heather of Haw River; God children, Jennifer Sumner Sawyer and husband, Grant of Burlington and Charity Sumner of Graham; grandchildren, Taylor Williamson, Jordan Mann, Jacob Mann, Hayden Mann, Evan Mann, Garrett Phillips, Shea Phillips, Colby Sumner and Arianna Chambers; mother, Geraldine Fitzgerald Phillips of Haw River; brothers, Dwight Phillips and wife, Amy of Mebane, Wayne Phillips and wife, Brenda of Hillsborough and Kenny Phillips of Haw River; sister, Linda Phillips of Haw River; special friends, Darlene Bowman and Jeff Dean. He was preceded in death by his father, William Homer Phillips and a brother, Robert Phillips. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the UNC Bone Marrow Unit for their kind and compassionate care for Richard during his illness. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bennie Smith and the burial will follow at Haw River City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Dottie and Derek Mann. Memorials may be made to the National Bone Marrow Donor Program, 500 N. Fifth Street, Minneapolis, MN 55410.
