It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Clarence “Buck” Oakley, Sr., who left this world peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Born on November 5, 1944, in Caswell County, Buck was the cherished son of the late Dewey Clarence “D.C.” Oakley and Ella Savannah Kimbro Oakley; and was the husband of 58 years to Brenda Gail King Oakley of the home.
Buck stood proudly by the side of his beloved wife, Brenda, creating a life woven together with affection and shared dreams. His professional journey led him to dedicate 30 years at Lorillard Tobacco Company when he retired; after which he brought his vibrant spirit to the community as a bus driver for Chapel Hill and Holiday Tours, connecting with individuals along the way.
A man of the Baptist faith, Buck found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He relished days spent riding horses, nurturing his beagle dogs, and embracing the thrill of hunting—whether it was rabbits, deer, fish, or birds. Yet, above all, it was the laughter and love of his family that brought him the greatest happiness.
Buck leaves behind a legacy of love in his devoted family that he adored, his wife, Brenda Oakley; his daughter, Mandy Oakley Bundren and her husband Mike; his daughter-in-law, Amy McIntyre Oakley; his cherished grandchildren, Jamie Gray (Noah), Cassie Bundren (Drew), and Jordan Michael Oakley; and his great-grandchildren, Skylyn, Ella, and Lennon. Also mourning his loss are his sister, Mary Lillian Reagan; a sister-in-law, Teresa Kernodle and her husband Larry; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved sons, Chad Michael Oakley and Richard “Richie” Oakley, Jr., and siblings, Sonny Oakley, William Oakley, Jeanette Talley, and Donnie Leon Oakley.
The funeral service to celebrate Buck's life will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Reid Dickens and Rev. Brandon Rouse. The family will receive friends from 2:30pm to 3:45pm Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the Oakley residence.
In his absence, Buck’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. To send condolences and watch the service online, please visit www.lowefuneralhome.com
