Richard Hornbuckle, Sr.

Mr. Richard Dennis Hornbuckle, Sr., age 70, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family after several weeks of failing health.
Born in 1945 in Orange County, he was the son of the late Titus Jerome Hornbuckle and the late Gladys Huffman Hornbuckle, raised in Hillborough, he graduated Orange High School with honors in 1964. He was a retired machinist from Sandvik Coromant, Inc. Richard was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed attending gun shows and had a large gun collection. He loved teaching his grandchildren history, especially about wars and battles.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Hester Hornbuckle of the home; two daughters, Patricia Ann Hornbuckle of Graham and Jennifer Leigh Hornbuckle Perry of Snow Camp; two sons, Richard Dennis Hornbuckle, Jr. of Graham and David Lester Hornbuckle and his wife, Katherine, of Snow Camp; nine grandchildren, Jessica Leighann Jones, Megan Elizabeth Smith, Samantha Kristine Perry, Ira Kain Perry, Kaitlyn Reneé Hornbuckle, James Tyler Hornbuckle, Abygail Mary Hornbuckle, Chloey Ann Hope Hornbuckle Fuqua and Hana Brittany Hornbuckle; three great grandchildren, Spencer Cain Smith, Peyton Robin Gourley, Journey Grace Jones and Joshua Brian Fuqua, who is due in June; many nieces and nephews; and lifetime friend, Jim Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Gary Jerome Baker; and a brother, Ronald Jerome Hornbuckle.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence.
