Mr. Richard Fred “Dick” Annand, age 83, of Gibsonville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance- Caswell with his family by his side.  He was born Aug. 29, 1935 in Hockessin, DE to Beryl Sampson Annand of Southsea, England & Fred Annand of Banff, Scotland.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert & Douglass.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 56 years; daughters, Donna (Tony) Jacobelli, Dawn Annand & Dianne (Joe) Cline; 4 grandchildren, Clay Winters, Lauren Cline, Lillie Cline & Craig Jacobelli; two brothers, Dr. David (Shirley) Annand of PA and Bill (Gayle) Annand of DE; and many nieces & nephews.

Dick attended H.C. Conrad High School in Wilmington, DE and graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Horticulture.  He also served for 8 years in the US Naval Reserves.

Dick was a longtime large acreage gardener.  He started his professional career at Longwood Gardens PA, and then worked as Superintendent of Grounds at The Biltmore Estate, NC State University and the Guilford Center.  He retired from large acreage gardening in 2000 to pursue the development and manufacturing of The Longnecker Garden Tools.

He was an active member for many years in the Gibsonville Lions Club, serving many positions including Deputy District Governor.  He was a member of the Gibsonville Planning and Zoning Board for over 20 years.  A lifetime member of the National Association of Gardening and also belonged to the Burlington Men’s Garden Club.  He was also a very faithful member of the Gibsonville United Methodist Church serving in many positions and singing in the choir for many years.

His quick wit, sense of humor and love of family will be missed by all.

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Barry Lemons.  The family will receive friends starting at 12:30 PM prior to the service at the church.
