Rev. Charles Eugene "Gene" Webb, 79, of Burlington, North Carolina, formerly of Galax, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. He was born in Austinsville, Virginia to the late Robert and Magdalene Anders Webb. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy Moxley Webb of the home; two daughters, Terecia Wilson George David Wilson of Prosperity, South Carolina, and Lisa Rand Dr. Richard Rand of Cookeville, Tennessee. He has three grandchildren: SSgt. George Patrick Wilson and Benjamin David Wilson of Prosperity, SC, and Victoria Grace Rand of Cookeville, Tennessee. He is survived by five brothers and sisters: Robert Webb, Bill Webb; Mickey Webb, Evelyn Maxie and Nancy DeAndrea; four sisters-in-law: Mary Webb, Loraine Kinzer, Lucille Payne Billy and Ramona Alderman and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is predeceased in death by six siblings: Paul, Clarence, Danny, and Jimmy Webb. He is preceded by Joyce Johnson and Audrey Hundley. Rev. Webb was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Air Force for four years. He was employed by Burlington Industries for 42 years as Plant Planning Manager at the Galax, VA Plant and the Williamsburg Plant in Burlington, North Carolina. Rev. Webb accepted the call to ministry in 1957. He was ordained into the Baptist Church in 1964 at the Volney Baptist Church in Volney, VA, serving as a full-time pastor and evangelist for fifty 50 years. His last pastorate was Riverdale Baptist Church in Burlington, North Carolina where he served as pastor for eighteen years. Over his fifty year ministry, Rev. Webb pastored seventeen 17 other churches in both Virginia and North Carolina. Churches included: Galax Wesleyan Methodist; West Galax Methodist; Asbury Methodist; Leonard Memorial Methodist; Long View Methodist; Peach Bottom Methodist; Grant Methodist; Little Wilson Methodist; Mill Creek Methodist; Troutdale Methodist; New Hope Methodist; Grubbs Chapel Baptist; Sturgills Baptist; Crockett Baptist; First Baptist of Speedwell; Summit Baptist; and Beech Grove Baptist. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel located on South Church Street in Burlington, NC by Dr. William Simpson and Rev. Stephen Hall, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and other times at the home. A viewing will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Independence, VA on Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 1:45 until 2:30 p.m. A service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the committal service. The Rev. Ted Anders, Rev. Bob Adams, and Rev. Charles Bunn will officiate. The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and appreciation to all of Rev. Webb's caregivers, including John Turner, Johnnie Faye Ellison, Ricky Alexander, Stacey Benton, Cheryl Troxler, Marie Willis, and numerous others. The family would also like to thank the many health care professionals at Alamance Regional Medical Center and Duke University Hospital. The family also extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to the many wonderful neighbors and friends who supported them during Rev. Webb's extended illness.
