Burlington, NC Rev. Harvey A. Walker, Age 84, of 2119 Joseph Street went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Alabama and the son of the late Ledgeard and Eula Thomas Walker. Rev. Walker retired from Western Electric after 24 year of service. He served the Lord in various capacities for many years before the Lord called him to full time ministry as a pastor. He attended Piedmont Bible College and Southeastern Baptist Seminary in Tennessee in preparation for being a minister. He served for two years as mission pastor of the First Baptist Church of Graham. Rev. Walker was licensed by First Baptist Church on December 14, 1966 and ordained by Glen Raven Baptist Church on February 14, 1971. After much prayer Rev. Walker felt led to establish a Baptist Church and after meeting in various locations a church building was purchased. The church became known as Piedmont Baptist Church and was located on West Webb Avenue in Burlington. He retired from the pastorate after over twenty years of preaching the gospel and leading people to the Lord. After his retirement he enjoyed volunteering at Alamance Regional Medical Center and he helped with the local elections for many years. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Morris Ashley Walker of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Walker and his wife, Carolyn of Raleigh, Glenn Walker and his wife, Lora of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Amanda David Farris, Ryan Lee Walker, Kimberlee Jane Walker, Timothy Walker and Kelly Brian Morris; great grandchildren, Aaron Farris, Leo Morris and Sophie Morris; sister, Jewel Crain; brothers, James Walker, Johnny and Arthur Parker. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Beatrice Ashley Walker; parents and one sister. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Willis and assisted by Rev. Willard Janey and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
