Rev. Norman Louis Temme, 92, of Twin Lakes died on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. He was born in Wallis, Texas on October 1, 1921 and was the second child of the late Rev. Louis Temme and Elsie Umbach. He was married for 67 years to his beloved wife, Marian Elizabeth nee Laible who predeceased him in 2013. He was the loving father of Susan Schultz Fred of Ligonier, PA, Deborah Di Menna Francis of Bronxville, NY and Jon Temme Kelly of Toronto, Ontario; loving grandfather of Becky Craig, Matt Anne, Rachael, Francis Adrienne, Christopher Deirdre, Tyler, Jessica, Gretchen Sean and Krister Susan; and great- grandfather of Jack, Hannah, Noah, Madison, Toby, Carson and Elowyn. He was preceded in death by his son, Joel Temme, and his brother, Ralph Temme. Norman had a long and varied life of service in the church and its educational institutions. His career began at First Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE where from 1944-1958 he was vicar, junior, associate and senior pastor. He was the associate pastor at Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville, NY from 1958-1971 while serving as associate director and then director of Public Relations from 1958-1966 for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod based in New York .He later was the head of public relations for the American Bible Society in New York from 1966-1973, Valparaiso University in Indiana from 1973-1978 and Concordia College, Bronxville, NY from 1980 until his retirement in 1986. In retirement he established Messiah Lutheran Church in Rutland, Vermont. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree in 1966, from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO and he also received the Servant of Christ Award from Concordia College, Bronxville, NY in 1990. Norman was an accredited reporter at the Second Vatican Council in Rome Vatican II in 1964 and for several years served as the editor of Stained Glass Magazine, the Journal of the Stained Glass Association of America. Norman was active in countless church and community boards, and he and his wife traveled extensively throughout their lives. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Friday, September 19 in the Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes conducted by Father Mark Wm. Menees. The family will receive friends following the service.
