Asheboro, NC Rev. David Leroy Reid, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Randolph Hospital. He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of Ruth Starling Reid who survives. Rev. Reid was employed for many years with Glen Raven Mills before taking a pastorate in Asheboro. He was the pastor of Good Samaritan Baptist Church in Asheboro where he served the Lord for over 18 years prior to his death. He was a DJ for a Gospel Radio station in his spare time. Survivors include his wife of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Michelle Reid of Burlington; 8 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ellen Childers of Gibsonville, Norma Dawson of Virginia and Diana Cameron of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Jack and Gertrude Hughes Reid; sisters, Annie Dare Lynch, Margaret Jobe, Mamie Sue Apple and Martha Reid; brothers, Tommy Reid and J. D. Reid. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Good Samaritan Baptist Church in Asheboro by Rev. Frank Gribble and assisted by Rev. Randy Hobbs and Rev. Jimmy Dillon. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service Saturday at the church. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday prior to the graveside service.
