Rev. Cockman

Elon Rev. Winfred Terry Tip Cockman, 78, of 108 Woodland Dr. died Monday August 7, 2006 at Moses Cone Hospital. He was the husband of Mildred Cockman for 57 years and son of the late George Thomas and Katie Maness Cockman. He was a native of Moore County and a US Navy veteran. Rev. Cockman was the current pastor of City Lake Baptist Church of Burlington, and the former pastor of Jupiter Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Elon and Parkview Baptist Church of Morehead City. He was the former Minister of Education of First Baptist Church of Charlotte, former associate minister of First Baptist Church of Laurens, South Carolina former interim minister of Swepsonvile Baptist Church. He was the adult team leader of the Mt. Zion Association. Rev. Cockman was the author of two books Expanding The Mind And The Heart Through Prayer and Ideal Blend. He is survived by his wife Mildred Cockman of the home and daughter; Joan Cockman of Durham, his dog and loving companion Abby and Granddog Zeb, sister; Evelyn Jones, brothers; Ervin Cockman, Eugene Cockman, George Cockman. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Bonnie Purvis, Bertha Cheek, Ann Dunlap, Ruby Shoemacher, and brothers; Clarence Cockman and Marvin Cockman. Funeral service will be Friday, August 11, 2006 at 2:00pm at City Lake Baptist Church by Dr. Howard Silver and Don Bolden. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Thursday night at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to City Lake Baptist Church, 1849 Carolina Rd. Burlington, NC 27217.
