Raymond Kivett

Mr. Raymond Edward Kivett, age 88, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at his home after several months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Edward Leonard Kivett and the late Ruth Hay Kivett and was married for over 60 years to Ruth Sims Kivett, who survives. Raymond graduated Burlington High School in 1943 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1944-1946 where he was stationed in Naples, Italy. After returning home he enrolled at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and graduated in 1950. Raymond worked in the textile industry for over 36 years and retired from Kayser Roth Hosiery after 30 years of service. Raymond was servant of the Lord and was a member of Burlington Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and as the Treasurer. Raymond loved his family and looked forward to their gatherings and beach trips and he enjoyed fishing, traveling and carving wooden bird sculptures. Mr. Kivett is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Ray Kivett, Jr. and his wife, Sharon, and sons, Trey and Will, and Brian Kivett and his wife, Robin, and daughters, Lindsay and Katherine, all of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walker Kivett; and a nephew, Danny Kivett. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Creighton Beatty. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 at the funeral home prior to the service and other times at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice and to Dr. Steve Klein and Dr. Spencer Tilley for their exceptional care of Mr. Kivett during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Burlington Christian Church c/o the Building Fund, 301 Trail 4, Burlington, NC 27215.
