Burlington-Ray Aldrow Hawkins, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 after a courageous battle of 5 years with Wegeners Granulomatosis. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 50 years to Iris Watkins Hawkins who survives. Ray retired from Dick Shirley Chevrolet and was a US Army veteran. He was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church where he sang in the church choir. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Iris Watkins Hawkins of the home; daughters, Julie H. Brooks and husband, Torrence of Burlington and Melanie H. Lewis and husband, Brian of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Kristin Brooks, Kailey Brooks, Kaitlyn, Madison and Aiden Lewis; mother, Nellie Fogleman Hawkins of Burlington; brother, James D. Hawkins and wife, Beth of Gibsonville; sister, Phyllis Caviness of Gibsonville and special canine companion, Chloe. He was preceded in death by his father, Roby James Hawkins. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Carl Parsons and Rev. Reid Dickens and burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Saturday and other times at the home.
