Ralph Jarrett

July 25, 1926 — January 13, 2022

Ralph Jarrett

Ralph Louis Jarrett, 95, of Burlington, NC went to be with his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness with Covid-19.

A native of Bassett, Virginia, he was born on July 25, 1926 to Ernest Jarrett and Mary Ella Jarrett.  Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel Burke Jarrett, daughter Patricia Fitz Jarrett and brother Claude Jarrett.  He was also preceded in death by his previous wife Nell Caudill Jarrett.

Survivors include his daughters, Lynn (Ron) Stephens, Deborah Jarrett (Dennis Williams), Anita (Charles) Albright, son Douglas (Trish) Jarrett, and step children, Roger (Barbara) Minton, Mike (Susan) Minton, and Susan (Tom) Bishop, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Ralph was a very spiritual, loving and kind man. He deeply loved his family and cared about the welfare of all people.  His prayers were superlative in using the English language. He had an impactful and sincere delivery in his prayers.

Ralph was very active at Glen Hope Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and various other duties.  He was a devout Christian who ministered to members of the church and close friends.  On Sundays, at Petro Truck Stop, he served as Chaplain to the truckers.

As a kid growing up in Bassett, he started driving trucks at his father’s sawmill business at the young age of 12.  Needless to say, little Ralph did not realize that would be the start of driving a truck for 71 years, carrying freight over 42 States.  He was a driver for Associated Transport (14 years), Billings Freight (15 years), and Mace Grading where he retired at the age of 83.

Ralph enjoyed the beach, bowling, watching Carolina Tar Heels sports, and classic cars.  He enjoyed watching various game shows, wrestling, John Wayne Movies, all sports, and Pastor Hagee.  He also enjoyed listening to Christian radio and having lunch from Harbor Inn Seafood.  Ralph enjoyed his neighbors Mike, Joni and their 3 sons.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregiver, Bobbie Davis whose engaging presence and care brought him comfort in his final weeks.

A memorial service to honor God and celebrate Ralph’s life will be held, Saturday, January 22, 2022, 12:00 noon at Glen Hope Baptist Church, Burlington, NC.  Reverend Lewis Baber will officiate with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glen Hope Baptist Church, 911 North Ave., Burlington, NC 27217 or Samaritans Purse, P.O.
