Burlington – Rachel Berrier Cox, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2023, surrounded by her family, at her residence. She was born on April 23, 1939 in Davidson County to the late Paul Wesley Berrier and Annie E. Snyder Berrier. She was married for 58 years to the late Donald Lee “Don” Cox who died on May 9, 2022.
Rachel was the Salutatorian of the 1957 graduating class at Griffith High School. From there, she graduated Brevard College in 1959 and then nursing school, becoming a registered nurse. It was while working at NC Baptist Hospital that Rachel met Don. Marriage and children soon followed, and Rachel found her true calling as a devoted wife to Don and loving mother to her three girls. In later life, more joy transpired as she became a doting grandmother to 7 grandchildren.
Her second career was serving alongside her husband Don as the Vice President of Cox Toyota. She enjoyed working in the office and especially enjoyed meeting customers. Many life-long friendships were forged.
Rachel became a Christian around the age of 12. A visiting preacher came to her home and shared the Gospel with the family. Although her family attended church, it was at this time that Rachel made a personal decision to follow Christ as her Savior. Her relationship with Him was evident in her love and service to Him and to all those around her. Most recently, Rachel was a member of the Burlington Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Elisabeth Cox Cox and husband Rusty, Rebecca Cox Lennon and husband Bill, Jr., Deanna Cox Moore and husband Chris; grandchildren, Adam Cox, Emily Cox, Rachel Lennon, Jackson Lennon, Caleb Lennon, Madison Moore and Brayden Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents; sister, Nancy Lockwood; and a brother, Paul Wayne Berrier.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bryan Rainbow with the burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be sent to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association to further spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
