Phyllis Sandy

Mrs. Phyllis Earline Townsend Sandy, age 81, of Burlington, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 after several years of failing health and a couple of weeks of critical illness.

Born in Watagua County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Ira Eugene Townsend and the late Alice Baird Townsend and was married for over 58 years to Charlie Edward Sandy, who passed in 2018.  Phyllis retired from Glen Raven Mills after 20 years of service and was a member Belmont Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sandy is survived by her sister, Willa Mae Parker; three brothers, Charles Townsend, Landon Townsend and Ricky Townsend; and several nieces and nephews, including Karen Dean, who came to live with Charlie and Phyllis as their caregiver a few years until their passing.  She was preceded in death by husband; parents; two sisters, Clara Greene and Dare Johnson; and a brother, Byrle Townsend.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Monday, May 3, 2021 at Belmont Baptist Church by Rev. Nathaniel Hobbs.  Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:45 AM Monday prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
