Mrs. Peggy June Beck Shaw, age 75, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several weeks of failing health.
Born in Grayson County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Flem Beck and the late Guydia Billings Beck and was married for over 40 years to Worth Odell Shaw, Jr., who passed in 2010. She was a career homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Maw Maw was always known as a loving caretaker. Whether it was her children, her parents, her grandchildren, or any other friend or family member, it was her mission to make sure everyone’s needs were met. She made delicious mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, cream corn, pintos, BBQ sauce, vegetable soup, 3-layer jello, pb&j mini sandwiches with the crust cut off, banana pudding, strawberry cake and the best pound cake on the planet. And her cooked apples could cure any ailment. She welcomed everyone into her home in a warm and comfortable way and made them feel a part of the family. Her laugh was contagious and she brought a smile to the faces of everyone she met. Her family was her entire world and she beamed with pride whenever she talked about them.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her four daughters, Rhonda Phillips, Crystal (Nate) Coleman, Tracy McDowell and Elizabeth (Creighton) Vaught; nine grandchildren, Stephen (Heidi) Boswell, Kevin (Sarah) Boswell, Kristina Boswell, Cassidy Coleman, Brittany (Hunter) Walker, Peyton McDowell, Ella Vaught, Breighley Vaught and Charlie Vaught; a step grandson, Brandon Phillips; five great grandchildren, Avery, Carter, Bradley and Asher Boswell and Joanna Walker; a sister, Betty Alford (Whoa) Toller; a brother, Letcher (Frances) Beck; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother-in-law, Don Alford.
