Pauline Jeannette Carruthers Kuhn, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Twin Lakes Community Center. She was born in Peoria, IL to the late James and Ada Jeannette Carruthers and was the wife of 62 years to the late Conrad Francis Kuhn. Pauline, better known as "Grama" Kuhn, belonged to "The Greatest Generation", one of those who lived through the Great Depression and WWII. Her early life was difficult but she developed great character and became an amazing woman. She was very committed to her church, being a member of Calvary Church in Charlotte and more recently Hillside Presbyterian Church in Burlington. From early teenage years, she was very involved in church and its mission to the unemployed during the depression. She was a teacher and had a passion for less fortunate children and volunteered at Neighborhood House during war time. She taught in the public schools in Illinois and at Calvary Christian School in Charlotte, where she was also the assistant principle. Pauline was also committed to her family, with whom she left a great legacy of love to God and service to people, especially children. She expressed a great love for children's poetry and God's Word and always tried to leave the world a happy place. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Mundy and husband, Donald of Burlington; son, Richard "Dick" John Kuhn and wife, Jan of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jacqueline Sherer and husband, Tripp, Jodi Mundy, Jennifer Smith and husband, Dan, Jonathan Todd Mundy and wife, Laurie, Tiffany Roberts and husband, Michael, Danny Kuhn and Michael Kuhn; great grandchildren, Jessica Heritage, Justin Heritage, Trey Graham, Jack Mundy, Charlie Mundy, Ellianna Mundy, Macy Roberts, Savannah Roberts, Michael Roberts, Chelsie Sherer, June Sherer, Joey Sherer, Bella Sherer, Sophie Sherer, Madison Smith, Macy Smith and Hudson Smith and sister, Louris Mae Roathe. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Jack Carruthers. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, November 11, 2013 by Rev. Bill Prince at Hillside Presbyterian Church at 3743 Maple Ave., Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45pm prior to the service at the church and other times at the daughter's home in Burlington. A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Calvary Church Cemetery at 5801 Pineville-Matthews Rd. in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillside Presbyterian Church, 3743 Maple Ave., Burlington, NC 27215.
