Burlington – Paul Timothy Smith, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Hospice Home. A native of Randolph County, he was born January 24, 1932 to the late Harvey Cime and Ora Mae Terrell Smith and was the husband of 27 years to Christine West “Chris” Smith of the home.
Paul was a US Veteran serving in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War. He retired from AMP Inc. and was a longtime member of People’s Memorial Christian Church where he sang in the choir and helped with VIP. Paul worked alongside Chris as a Hospice volunteer for many years. He enjoyed RV Trips to the mountains, vacations to Pigeon Forge and enjoyed playing the keyboard and singing.
Survivors include his wife, Chris; daughters, Regina V. Smith (Stephen) of Greenville, SC, Darlene Annette Strader (Frank) of Julian; son, Maurice Dee Smith (Debbie) of Mocksville; stepdaughter, Rachelle Canterbury of Charlotte; stepson, Robin L. Canterbury of Banner Elk; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sisters, Elva Susan Allen, Christine Jeanette Holden and brother, Garland Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Joyce Smith; parents; a sister, Edith Inez Robertson; brothers, Edward Demois Smith and Odell Wesley Smith.
A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Grinnell with the burial to follow at Gilmore Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 -1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
