Patricia Songy Cheek, 83, of 414 W. Fifth St., Burlington, N.C. passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. A native of Reserve, LA, she was the daughter of the late Raphael Nemour and Nylefter Philomene Gregoire Songy and the wife of Lewis Ray Cheek who survives. Mrs. Cheek was a substitute teacher in Alamance and Guilford Counties for many years and a professional artist. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of the Burlington Artist League and B.A.L. Art Gallery. Survivors include her husband, Lewis Ray Cheek of the home; children, Pamela Jean Wase and husband Marty of Pinebluff, Kenneth Ray Cheek, Sr. and wife Rebecca of Mebane, David Lewis Cheek of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Anne Darst of Walnut Cove, Wendy Louise Cavalier and husband Josh of Charlotte; grandchildren, Cristina Adams and husband Casey, Danielle Wase, Kenneth Cheek Jr., Melissa Moore and husband Mike, Adam Cheek, Stephanie Maltos and husband Vince, Louise Cheek and husband Bobby, Jamie Darst and wife Katie, Daniel Darst, Patricia Cromer and husband Daniel, James Cavalier; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Sabrina, Brianna, Bobby Jr., Dylan and Wynter; Siblings, Rhoda Theard and husband Floyd of Slidell, LA, Milton Songy and wife Emma of Cibilo, TX, Neil Songy and wife Judy of Picayune, MS, Lance Songy and wife Lynda of Lafayette, LA, Jim Songy and wife Pauline of Hammond, LA, Margaret Taix and husband Ray of Metairie, LA, Miriam Keating and husband Ronald of La Place, LA; sister in-law Joan Songy of Metairie, LA. She was preceded in death by children, Karen Yvonne Teague and Daniel Erwin Cheek; siblings R.N. Songy Jr. and June Contreary. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1620 Hanford Rd., Burlington by Rev. Briant Cullinane, OFM Conv. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington. Mrs. Cheek will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to Blessed Sacrament Church where the family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am, prior to the funeral service. Immediately after interment, the family will receive friends at Blessed Sacrament Churchs St. Francis Room for repast and at other times the family will receive friends at the residence.
