Pastor Paul Russell Baker was born on September 12, 1928 and died on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Hospice Home and is now at home with his Lord Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Lowe Baker; father, Henry Paul Baker; mother, Florence Russell Baker; stepmother, Deland Baker and a cousin, John Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pearl Baker; stepchildren, Paul J. Lowe, Jr., Julie Riley, Charlie Williams, Nathan Williams; 13 step grandchildren; cousins, Steve Baker, Jeff Baker, Frank Baker and numerous friends.
Paul was born in Brooklyn, NY and spent his early years in Ashland and Plymouth, OH. He loved music and played the drums in a local band. Later, he joined the Marines, serving his basic training at Paris Island, SC, and was honorably discharged after four years of service.
He lived in Miami, FL where he met Jesus his Savior at the First Baptist Church of Westwood Lake and was later ordained as a minister of Christ. He attended Tennessee Temple University where he graduated in 1969 with a degree in theology. Paul pastored his first church in Mifflinburg, PA and various churches in NC for 40 years. After the death of his first wife, Juanita, he retired from Christian Bible Fellowship where he served as associate pastor. He also served as counselor / “everything volunteer” at the Hospice Home for six years, receiving the State Volunteer of the Year award in 2011.
Paul remarried in May, 2010 and spent his last years with his wife, Dorothy, happy and really retired. He was a member of Agape Baptist Church.
Paul loved Jesus first, family next, then Glenn Miller big band music.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 28, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Rick Miller with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
