Ou Vonglakhone

Ou Vonglakhone, was born on October 8th, 1955 survived by his wife of 37 years, Davanh Vonglakhone. His four kids, son Sayanh Vonglakhone 36, daughters Lamphanh Vonglakhone 34, Lamphay Vonglakhone 31, Dogejhay Vonglakhone 30. Seven grandkids, Preston, Ashianna, Quanjai, Noah, Major, Myles and Sayanh Jr. In 1982, As a Laotian refugee, who sacrificed everything and left a majority of his family to pursue a better life and opportunity. Through 3 years of living in a refugee camp, Ou finally settled in Burlington, NC with the help of family and many sponsoring church families. From the first day Ou set foot in America he started to build a foundation for his family. Straight to work at whatever job would hire him, with no knowledge or education of this foreign land, he pushed forward to provide for his wife and kids. At no cost he made sure his family had a roof over their heads and food on the table while his loving wife took care of the home. With help from loving families and friends, he found time to self educate himself, so he could provide more efficiently for his family. Through many rough years of struggling day to day, living through government assistance, moving from small apartments to another small apartment, his hard work and persistence to provide and better his and his family's life paid off. No he was not a millionaire, no he did not own fancy materials, nor did he desire to, but what he had establish was a foundation for his family, a better life, a better opportunity for his children to prosper and strive to be as great as he was. Till his last breath this was his goal and dreams, to make sure he led his family to a better life. In 1988, with his wife, he bought a home, owned a car or two, through blood, sweat, tears and hard worked he kept scraping away at realizing his dreams. Even with all this hard work he found time to pursue his passion in singing. In the Laos community he is known nationally for his talent as a MC and singing for his own band. He provided so much culture entertainment for everyone who has ever had the pleasure of knowing him and seeing him perform. His voice, his songs provided more than just entertainment, it provided a sense of home and culture to the Laos community. As a minority group we all came together to keep this alive and more importantly we all looked to Ou Vonglakhone as a leader, voice of sensibility and a role model for future generations to come. With so much life and love to give out, with so much of his time devoted to work and everything else he still kept pushing forward for himself. He realized another dream when he became an American citizen in 2011. Prideful of where he came from, proud of where he ended up was always his motto. Ou Vonglakhone, will be forever remember for his wisdom, teachings, and his hard working achievements for the goals he accomplished, too us he is a hero. Ou Vonglakhone, an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend will be truly missed near and far. At this time on behalf of our family we would like to thank everyone for your love and support. It means a great deal to us that everyone was able to come join our family to pay respect for an amazing man. We appreciate everyone from our hearts and soul. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Friday.
