Otis “O.T.” Thomas Smith, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the hospice home. He was born in Alamance County to the late Earl David Smith and Bessie Amick Smith, and was married to the late Sylvia Bailey Smith who died in 2017.
O.T. retired after 36 years with Southland/Life of Georgia Insurance Company as a District Manager. He was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, where he held various positions through the years. O.T. was a senior member of the Alamance County Rescue and the Alamance Region Antique Car Club. He enjoyed his old cars and going to car shows.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Kellie Smith; a grandson that he adored, Landon Smith and girlfriend, Emily Leonard; a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Elsie Smith; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings, Cecil Smith, Clarence Smith, Ann Chandler, Fayedean Overman and Emma Lee Shoe.
The graveside service will be held 3:00pm Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Andy Wood. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30pm Sunday prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at ARMC and the hospice home for their loving care and compassion that was shown to O.T. during his illness.
