Mebane-Oscar William "Bill" Gammon, Jr. age 74 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late Oscar William Gammon, Sr. and Edith Shockley Gammon. Bill was the owner and operator of Bill's Taxidermist and he was known as a Legend in the field of Taxidermy and he was an avid outdoorsman. He was a US Navy veteran serving as a Navy Seal and a member of American Legion Post # 357. He was of the Christian faith and member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was also a member of the National Taxidermist Association. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Dixon Wright Gammon of the home; sons, Tony Price Owen and wife, Lisa of Woodbine, Georgia, Oscar William "Billy" Gammon, III and wife, Teresa of Prospect Hill, NC and Kenneth Gammon and wife, Rebecca of Yanceyville, NC; step daughter, Jamie Browning and husband, Jason of Elon; grandchildren, Meagan Gammon, Morgan Gammon, Oscar "Billy" Gammon, IV, Mason Gammon, Steven Dale Gammon, Jennifer Owen and Kristen Weber; step granddaughter, Isabelle Browning; GGC, Brendon Weber, Jackson Strich and Nicholas Weber; sister, Marie Gammon Howe of Graham; brothers, Elmer "Pete" Gammon and wife, Almeria of Mebane, Robert "Lynn" Gammon and wife, Jeri of Mebane, Richard Lee Gammon of Burlington and Andrew "Phil" Gammon and special friend, Lisa Poole of Burlington; step mother, Faye Cheek Gammon of Burlington; sister-in-law, Denise Gammon of Haw River; numerous nieces and nephews and a special niece, Crystal Ruiz of Mebane. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Velva Marquand Gammon; parents and a sister, Ann Shively. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Haw River United Methodist Church by Rev. Jeanne Neal and Rev. Darrel Kroeze and the burial will follow at Gammon Memorial Park with military honors by the US Navy. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
