Burlington Oscar Vance Abbott, Jr., age 77, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Village of Brookwood. A native of Pitt County, he was born May 30, 1934 to the late Oscar Vance and Mildred Gilbert Abbott, Sr. and was the husband of nearly 55 years to Suelene Bunch Abbott who survives. Mr. Abbott was a member of Cary United Methodist Church in Cary, NC and worked as an engineer most of his life. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sports, namely baseball, in which he played as a young man. He was loved by all and will surely be missed. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Vicki Street and husband Rex of Elon; a son, Erik and wife Dena of Luxembourg; grandchildren, Tucker, Hudson and Olivia Street; a sister, Peggy Mullen and husband Early and nieces, Gail Simmons, Hope Hardison, Earlene Mills and Diane Craft. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ben Bishop. The burial will be 2:00pm Sunday at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper, GA. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45pm on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Rex and Vicki Street. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Village of Brookwood and Edgewood Place for their loving care during the time he spent there.
