Mrs. Ollie Smith Dawson, age 73, of 5635 Baldwin Rd., died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Mrs. Dawson was born September 27, 1937 in Del Rio, TN as the youngest daughter to the late Manuel and Emma Sexton Smith. She worked in the hosiery industry for many years and retired from Sonoco Products after many years of service. She attended Altamahaw Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Ollie leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her husband of 56 years, William Staley Dawson; three daughters, Pat Dawson Hayes of Burlington, Kay Dawson Causey and her husband, Mike, of Elon and Darlene Dawson Light and her husband, Mike, of Elon; four granddaughters, Misty Hayes, Ashley Waller, Brandy Light and Candice King; and two great grandchildren, Dawson Beasley and Jayden Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alene Gentry, Beulah Harrell and Ruth Gerringer; and three brothers, Joe Smith, Hubert Smith and Theodore Smith. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Steve Tucker. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Christine Harvell for her friendship and the exceptional care she provided to Mrs. Dawson during her illness.
