Odis Earl Gordon, 74, of 4926 NC 150 E passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Gordon was born August 25, 1934 in Guilford County to the late Hugh Jefferson and Annie Apple Gordon. Odis retired after 33 years of service as Guilford County's assistant tax collector. He was a member of the Stony Creek Presbyterian Church were he served as a deacon and superintendent of the church. Mr. Gordon was a graduate of Monticello High School and he furthered his education at GTCC and UNC Chapel Hill. He was a member of numerous community activities and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Odis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 52 years Nell Barker Gordon of the home; two sons, Douglas K. Gordon of Brown Summit and Phillip Reed Gordon and his wife, Mindy of Greensboro; a grandson, Houston Dean Gordon, a brother, Willard Gordon of Asheboro; and a sister, Mozelle Brooks of Brown Summit. He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, and his parents. A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Hickey, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials can be made to Stony Creek Presbyterian Church 2140 Stoney Creek Church Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
