Burlington Norman Jerry Vanscoy, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Harrison County, OH on January 15, 1941 to the late Norman and Juanita Vanscoy and was the husband of 16 years to Maureen Callahan Vanscoy who survives. Jerry was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church and retired from Lucent Technologies. He graduated from Adena High School in Harrisville, OH in 1959 and later graduated from Ohio State University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He was most proud of playing center for the Buckeyes on the 1961 championship football team. He enjoyed helping with the boy scouts and was a science teacher and football coach at Western High School. Survivors include his wife of the home, sons, Kurt Vanscoy and wife Kelli of Carolina Beach and Marc Vanscoy of Raleigh; daughter, Kris Keeter of Burlington; step-daughter, Stacy Keller of Danville; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyleen, Caleb, Allen, Preston and Seth; sister Joy Ables; brother-in-law, Jerry Carter and his dogs, "Skippy" and "Tiny". He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Murray Ables and sister, Beverly Carter. The funeral service will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Carl Parsons and Dr. Steve Tucker with burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
