Nora Cauline Howell, 81, formerly of Graham, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Anson Health and Rehab Center in Wadesboro, NC. She was born on August 24, 1939 in Anson County to the late Siler Dewey Howell and Minnie Brown Howell.
Cauline was a retired Linguistics Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She grew up in Norwood, NC and graduated from Norwood High School and went on to Wingate Jr. College and graduated from Meredith College. After college graduation, she and her identical twin, Pauline moved to Paris, France for a year to teach English to French children. They traveled extensively - to Russia, China, Mexico, Switzerland and most of Europe.
She is survived by a sister, Olivene Hicks of Chapin, SC; a brother Larry Howell (Linda) of Tacoma, WA; along with her nieces, Stephanie (Terry) Gruber, and Karena (Steve) Glodowski; nephews, Justin Howell, and Adam (Jenn) Howell; and great nieces, Candace G. (Joshua) Cumalander, Rachel G. Gruber, Lydia Glodowski, Genevieve Glodowski, Juliet Glodowski and Olivia Howell. She was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Pauline Howell Jordan; brother-in-law, Garlin Hicks; a nephew, Marcus Hicks; and her parents.
She was a kind and generous lady who was a master gardener and ran a community garden in Graham. Cauline helped coordinate donations for the local Christmas Cheer program, she enjoyed traveling, helping others and spending time with her sisters at their mountain home in Boone, NC.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 2:00PM at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Christmas Cheer, 331 S Main Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
