Mr. Nelson Raymond Pierce, age 90, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the Hospice Home after several weeks of failing health.
Born in Hoboken, NJ, he was the son of the late Clarence Nelson Pierce and the late Venus Scularekes Pierce and was married for over 63 years to Mrs. Margaret Anne Mackenzie Pierce, who survives. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University. Nelson was employed as an industrial engineer by Bendix and later Westinghouse, while living in New Jersey. After moving to North Carolina he was employed with Clark Equipment Company, GKN, Conva Tec and lastly Measurements Inc. He was a member of the Alpine-Tenakill Masonic Lodge in Tenafly, NJ, the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and attended the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. Nelson enjoyed woodworking, electrical and plumbing work and was the consummate handyman.
Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife of the home; his son, Steven Pierce; two grandsons, Alexander and Chandler Pierce; a brother, Donald Clarence Pierce; and his daughter-in-law, Renee Pierce. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey Pierce.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 8, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. George Silides. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel.
