Loma Nell Butler Martin Hobbs, 82, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Hospice Home. Nell was born in Caswell County to the late Murray Shackelford Butler, Sr. and Lizzie Fannie Underwood Butler and was the wife of two late husbands, Ralph Martin and Rev. James Hobbs.
Nell formerly worked with the Alamance County Health Department, Alamance County Mental Health; Dr. John Blake and Dr. Jessie McNeil before she retired. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, working in her yard, interior design. Nell hosted many get-togethers with her family and friends. She was kind, soft spoken and lived her life above reproach. Nell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she contributed greatly and never hesitated to step in. Nell was Grace and lived her faith.
Nell's heart and life was her son, Scott Martin, her grandchildren, Claire and Patrick. Scott was a Freelance Photo Journalist and worked for The Associated Press.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Claire Martin and Patrick Martin; sisters, Bobbie Clayton and Gena Butler; sister-in-law, Toni Butler; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; special cousins that she grew up with, Rev. William, Harry and Betty Lou Underwood.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a son, Ralph Scott Martin; brothers, Charles William Butler, Retired US Air Force, Murray S. Butler, Jr., US Army Vietnam and sister, Clara Elizabeth Butler. Nell's dear aunts that she adored, Eleanor Butler Lashley, Ethel Butler (James), and Ruth Underwood (Roy).
Nell often spoke about the kindness and giving spirit of Cindy McNeill. She wanted to thank you and the greatest respect to The Methodist Conference, along with retired Methodist Minister, Henry Loveless in Virginia. They truly follow in the footsteps of Christ and their kindness over flows.
The graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Pine Hill Cemetery by Rev. Carolyn Burrus. There will be no visitation. Lowe Funeral Home is serving the Butler family.
The family would like to say "Thank You" to Dr. Bert Kline and his nurses, the wonderful caregivers at Home Instead, Community Home Care and the Hospice Home for their greatest support.
