Gibsonville, NC Ned M. Shearin, age 68 passed away peacefully at his home on January 7, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Ned was born December 29, 1942 in Franklington County. He was retired as a superintendent from Pete Wall Plumbing in Greensboro and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved Nascar racing with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver and was a collector of rare coins and racing memorabilia. All of which he chose to be donated for the betterment of others. He is survived by his wife of the home, Helen Shearin; daughter, Lori Thornburg of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Markie Thornburg Meredith and Nicholas Thornburg, and the greatest joy of his life, his beloved great granddaughter, Aubrey Leigh Thornburg, all of Gibsonville. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Shearin of Gibsonville and Gene Shearin Helen Shearin of McLeansville; sisters, Dula Hester of McLeansville, Virginia Hall Richard Hall of Gibsonville, Sue McBride Sammy McBride of Liberty, Linda Heyworth Malcom of Charlotte and Bonnie Gerner David Gerner of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Shearin; brother, Benny Shearin and sisters, Dalphine Kinley and Ann Boggs. His family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice & Palliative of Alamance-Caswell, especially to Karen who became like a part of our family. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Choksi and the staff of the cancer center of ARMC. The family request all donations be made to Hospice & Palliative of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. Ned was a founding member of the Masters Church in Burlington. His fellow congregation quickly became his second family. Ned never missed a day reading his Bible or studying what he referred to as the Good Book. His philosophy in life, especially after becoming sick was simply, "The will and strength to live, is from the will and strength of God." A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, January 10, 2011 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Robert Thurman and Pastor Bryan Rhoden with the burial to follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Sunday at the funeral home
