Naomi Simmons

ELON - Naomi Gwynn Simmons, 89, formerly of Stadler Rd. passed away Saturday, Decemeber 24, 2016 at Hospice Home.
A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Myrtle Brintle Gwynn and the wife of the late Claude Swanson Simmons who died in 1985.
Naomi was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, referred to as "Nomi" by her siblings, "Mawmaw" by her grandchildren, and "Ga-ma" by her great-grandchildren.
For 54 years, Naomi focused on caring for her disabled daughter, Peggy, who she called "her little Angel". Caring for Peggy caused life to have its limitations, but it was a time that Naomi cherished, a time that gave her purpose, and she wouldn't have wanted it any other way. The way she cared for Peggy was an inspiration to so many that came in contact with them. Through the years, Naomi had several caregivers help with Peggy, who instantly became family and thought of her as another mother to them, lovingly calling her "Mama".
Naomi thought so much of her nieces and nephews, her neighbors, and her church family, and numerous other friends in her life and community. She touched so many lives in her lifetime, and will be missed by many.
Survivors include her daughters, Gail Aldridge and husband, Billy, and Brenda S. Apple and husband, Kim, all of Elon; grandchildren, Christy Herndon and husband, Chad, Leslie Hill and husband, Jeff, Valerie Apple, and Brandon Apple and wife, Chelsea; great grandchildren, Ashlyn Paschal, Jase Hill, Hailey and Carley Herndon; sister, Vera Madden and husband, Albert; brother, Marion Gwynn and wife, Maggie, and her special caregiver Margaret Brincefield. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Peggy Simmons and siblings, Frances Simmons, June Gwynn, Arnold Gwynn and Donald Gwynn.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Lick Fork Primitive Baptist Church in Reidsville by Elder David Underwood. Interment will follow in Gilliam's Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Simmons will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8pm Wednesday evening and other times the family will be at the home of Gail and Billy Aldridge, 1312 Stadler Rd., Elon.
