Nancy Joan McDowell Ullery

Nancy Joan (McDowell) Ullery, 86, died peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022 at her home in Gibsonville, NC, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by husband, Jesse Wm. (Dr. Bill) Ullery, Jr.; daughter, Julie Ullery; granddaughter, Katherine (Kadunce) Cobb and her husband, Dillon Cobb; her great-grandchildren, Cooper, Blake and Wyatt; and her little poodle.

Nancy was born November 5, 1935 and raised in Elkhart, IN. Nancy and Bill graduated from Elkhart High School in 1953. Her parents, Catherine (Forbregd) "Cad" McDowell and Albert "Mack" McDowell preceded her in death, Albert in 1983 and Catherine in 2007. Nancy and Bill first met in the 7th grade and were married in 1956, setting out on their 65-year journey together. They raised two children, Billy, who died in 1978, and Julie who is a hospice nurse in Greensboro, NC.

The Ullery family lived in several states, landing in Lake Havasu City, AZ in 1992, where Bill and his brother, Harold, founded the DBU new-home construction corporation. Aside from her job in retail sales at Walmart, Nancy also helped Bill with the business. When Bill retired in 2019, the two set out to North Carolina to join daughter, Julie, and granddaughter, Katie.

Nancy was a soft-spoken, always positive pleasant individual. She loved to read, travel, camp, bowl, golf, dance, go to concerts, and play with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and myriad cousins and friends.

A private memorial service is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Nancy's name to her favorite charity, https://www.authoracare.org/give/donate-online (specify “Kids Path”).
