Mrs. Nancy Lane Cook Moore of 163 Lakewood Court, Burlington, died at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 30, 2009. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Stephen Irwin Moore, Jr. who survives, and the daughter of Staley Albright Cook and Grace Lane Cook, both deceased. She was a graduate of Burlington High School, attended Duke University and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Journalism. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a highly respected real estate agent in Burlington and Alamance County for over 30 years where she enjoyed many years with Sam W. Moore & Associates and later, Massey Real Estate and was actively working until her recent illness. Nancy was a long time member of the Alamance Country Club and for many years, enjoyed her Friday gatherings there with her closest friends, the "DWI'S" Divorced, Widowed, or In-between. She was a member of the Battle of Alamance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Little Club, and the Mentor Book Club. An avid Tar Heel fan, she enjoyed going to football and basketball games whenever possible. Nancy participated in the services at Front Street United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. Her greatest joys were sharing times with her children to whom she was devoted. She exemplified a zest for living and inspired everyone with whom she encountered with her energy and humor. In a addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Dr. Stephen Irwin Moore, III and wife, Gigi, of Raleigh, Dr. Staley Cook Moore and wife, Dr. Leann Moore, of New Bern, Mr. Frank Winston Moore II, of Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Moore Amos and husband, Lin of High Point, Mrs. Stephanie Moore Kuykendall and husband, David, of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Nora Cook Tate and husband, Dr. Allen D. Tate, of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Virginia Scott Mutter and Elizabeth Harmon Mutter, of Raleigh, Nancy Allison Moore and Christina Meredith Moore, of New Bern, Kirkman Lindsay Amos, William MacRae Amos, and Samuel McMichael Amos, all of High Point and Katherine Grace Kuykendall of Houston, Texas. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter by the Reverend David Williams. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, and at other times, at the residence 163 Lakewood Court, at the Village at Brookwood. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Dr. Denny Cook Tate, Mr. Allen Albright Tate and Dr. Thomas Riley Hinson; her brother-in-law, Dr. Saunders Windston Moore; and family friends Mr. Edmund R. Gant and Mr. Howard S. Fogleman. Her grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance County, 914 Chapel hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, DUMC 3828, Durham, NC 27710 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
