Nancy Mansfield

Burlington Nancy Edwards Mansfield, passionate worshipper of Jesus Christ, closed her eyes on this earth Thursday, May 20, 2010, and opened them to see the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father, ten days short of her 69th birthday. Those she left behind can only imagine the joy she felt at seeing her Lord, and at the reunion with her mother she lost in 1956 and her father she lost in 2005. Nancy was the second of seven close and loving children born to Hugh Erastus and Virginia Rainey Edwards on May 30, 1941 in Alamance County, NC. After having lived with her sister Jenny for 10 years in Durham, near her beloved Duke Blue Devils, she moved back home to Burlington close to the rest of her family. She was a member of Cresset Baptist Church in Durham and had been attending Harvest Baptist Church in Burlington. She had two daughters, Terri Edwards and Beverly Hartel, and three grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Yvette Edwards, and Chase and Tiffani Teague. She got to see her newborn great-grandson, Angelo Nunez, Jr., and hold him for the first time last month. Nancy is the first of the siblings to go to be with the Lord, and there is a hole in their hearts in her absence. Left behind are the remaining six: Ronald Edwards and his wife, Bettie of Butner; Jenny Bunton of Durham; Ann Hudgins and her husband, James of Wilmington; Johnny Edwards of Mebane; Bobby Edwards and his wife, Betty of Elon, and Joe "Bulldog" Edwards and his wife, Deborah of Burlington. In addition to her children, grandchildren and siblings, there are too many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones to name. For those who would like to share your love and memories of Nancy, the family will receive visitors Saturday night, May 22 from 6-8 pm at Lowe Funeral Home at 2205 South Church Street in Burlington. The Celebration of her life will be Sunday, May 23 at the Lowe Chapel at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Dr. Ned Mathews, Rev. Jonathan Glass and Rev. Larry Lamberth. At other times, the family will be at Kristie Workman's home, 134 Herronwood Drive, Graham, NC 27253. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Nancy's name to Lowe Funeral Home, 2205 South Church Street, Burlington, NC 27215. You may sign the online register book at www.lowefuneralhome.com
