Burlington-Nancy Craven Jacobus died on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Twin Lakes. She was born in Holyoke, MA, on November 15, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband of 471/2 years, Royden Alfred Jacobus, in 2011; her parents Alan and Marion (Winterbottom) Craven; brother, Robert Alan Craven of Santa Barbara, CA, in 2015; and her special uncle and aunt Gaetano and Doris (Winterbottom) D’Antonio. 

  Ms. Jacobus and her husband retired in 2007 to Elon, NC, after living in Oak Ridge, TN, for 32 years. Ms. Jacobus graduated in 1963 with a degree in Chemistry from Hood College, Frederick, MD. She graduated in 1993 with a Master in Public Health (MPH) in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.

 In Oak Ridge, TN, Ms. Jacobus worked as an X-Ray Fluorescence Applications Chemist at EG&G Ortec and HNU-X-Ray for 12 years. For the following 18 years, she worked at the Y-12 Plant Laboratory as a Chemist. She had great passion for her position as the laboratory’s Chemical Hygiene Officer for the 15 years prior to her retirement.

 Ms. Jacobus was a seamstress since childhood. She especially enjoyed creating smocked and heirloom dresses for her four granddaughters when they were babies and toddlers. Ms. Jacobus was a photographer whose main photography interest was taking macros of flowers. She was captivated by reaching into the garden and recording an image with her camera that would be overlooked with the naked eye. She was a charter member of the Alamance Photography Club and served on its board as treasurer for several years.

 Ms. Jacobus is survived by her children, Cheryl Jacobus Herman (Richard) and Brett Ellis Jacobus (Lisa); her granddaughters, Sarah Herman, Lauren Jacobus, Caroline Herman, and Emily Jacobus; her niece, Kimberley Craven (Justin Percival), nephew, Matthew Craven and grandnephew, Trajan Percival and several loving in-laws. 

 The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Twin Lakes for their kind and compassionate care for their mother also her many friends in the Twin Lakes community who enriched her life since the passing of her husband.

 Ms. Jacobus was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Burlington, NC. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at The Episcopal Church of The Holy Comforter on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 2:00PM led by The Reverend David R. Williams Rector Emeritus. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45PM prior to the service in the church parlor. A private interment for the family will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon, NC.

 Ms. Jacobus requested that in lieu of flowers those remembering her volunteer in her memory for outreach community service of their choice.
