Burlington- Myrtle Lewis Whisenant, age 104,of 5413 S. NC 49 Burlington went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Liberty Commons. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia on January 19, 1902 to the late William Luther Lewis and Ophelia Bane Lewis. She was the wife of the late Floyd Lee Whisenant who preceded her in 1956. She retired from Wrightenberry Hoisery Mill as a seamstress and was a charter member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Whisenant is survived by three daughters, Shirley Martin and her husband Harold of the home, Ms. Edith Forbes of Burlington and Mrs. Geraldine Thompson and husband Gerald of Lincolnton NC; a son, Roger Dale Whisenant and wife Mary of Kernersville, NC; nineteen grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lorene and Gracie Whisenant; a son, Melvin Lee Whisenant and an infant son; three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory by the Rev. Wade Cox. Interment will follow at the Leemont Cemetery in Danville, VA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, September 4, 2006 at the funeral home and at other times at the home. The family would like to thank the staff of Liberty Commons and Dr. Richard Letvack and staff for all the special care they gave Mrs. Whisenant.
