Whitsett, NC Murphy Floyd Ingold, age 91, of Ingold Road went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Guilford County and the son of the late Murphy and Florence Greeson Ingold. Floyd retired from Machine Developers in Greensboro after operating a grading business with his brother for several years. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ where he served as an usher and a member of the Whitener Bible Class. He was also a member of the Friends and Neighbors Senior Group for the Mt. Hope community. Floyd was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop # 374 at Mt. Hope U.C.C. for thirty years. The General Greene Council honored Floyd with the Silver Beaver Award of distinguished service to the Boy Scouts. While scoutmaster he had 24 scouts to become Eagle Scouts under his leadership. Floyd served with the US Army in the 229th Field Artillery Battalion of Battery C during WW II in the European Theatre seeing action at the "Battle of the Bulge" and throughout Northern France, Rhineland and the Ardennes. Survivors include his sisters, Jeanne Ingold and Clarine Ingold both of the home, Iona Ingold Humble of Liberty, Wanda Ingold Amick and her husband, Coy of Julian; brother, James "Jim" Ingold and his wife Lu Eller of Whitsett; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elsie Ingold; sister, Johnsie Ingold Clapp and her husband, Lee; brother-in-law, Elmer Humble. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Hope United Church of Christ by Rev. Lloyd Spencer and the burial will follow with military honors by the 82nd Airborne Division in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday in the sanctuary of the church and other times at the home. The family request that any former boy scouts in attendance at the service serve as honorary pallbearers and sit together as a group behind the active pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Mt.
