Burlington, NC Lance Corporal Mitchel Anthony Gibbs, age 19, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC. He was a native of Port Smith, Rhode Island and a Lance Corporal with the United States Marine Corps stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. He was a 2008 graduate of H. H. Cummings High School and a member of the football team. He was an artist, excelling in graphic arts both pencil and ink drawings as well as painting. Mitchel wrote poetry having some of his poems published recently. Survivors include his wife, Samantha Jo Gibbs and his daughter, Adrielle Storm Gibbs of New Bern, NC; mother, Connie Marie Hope Gibbs of Burlington and his father, Edwin "Ed" Eugene Gibbs and step mother Patricia Gibbs of Perrysburg, Ohio; sister, Alexus Loretta Gibbs of Burlington; brothers, Matthew Ryan and Kyle Alexander of Ohio; father and mother-in-law, Brenda and Adam Hoskinson of New Lexington, Ohio; maternal grandmother, Linda Fredericksen of Burlington; maternal step grandfather, Barry Fredericksen of Iowa; paternal grandfather, Edwin Lee Gibbs of Missouri; paternal grandmother, Sarah Jane Gibbs of Missouri; maternal uncle, Corporal David Milio Careatti of Bettendorf, Iowa; maternal aunt, Kamla Beard and her husband, Kent of Raleigh, NC; maternal great great aunt, Betty Van Sharpe of Graham; numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Shirley Jones and Chaplain Jon Rozeman and the graveside service will follow at Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church Cemetery in Graham with full military honors proved by the US Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 12:15 until 1:45 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at his mother's home.
