Mildred Stephenson

Burlington Mildred Barlow Stephenson, 92, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Twin Lakes Health Care in Burlington, North Carolina after several years of failing health. She was born on January 12, 1917 in Wakefield, Virginia to Walter O. Barlow and Martha Roxie Carroll Barlow, both deceased. She was raised in Franklin, Virginia and moved to Suffolk, Virginia following her marriage to the late Harvey W. Stephenson, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Suffolk for over 70 years where she taught in the Primary Sunday School for 20 years. She loved missions and was active in the Missionary Circles of the church throughout her years in Suffolk. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Joan F. Stephenson. Survivors include two sons, Harvey W. Stephenson, Jr. and his wife Judith of Appomattox, Va. and Rev. Robert W. "Bob" Stephenson of Elon, NC; and one grandson, Mark W. Stephenson Burlington, NC. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at R.W. Baker Funeral Home in Suffolk on Friday, February 20, 2009 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Franklin, V.A. R.W. Baker Funeral Home in Suffolk, V.A and Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory of Burlington, NC are serving the Stephenson family.
