Mildred Petree

Mrs. Mildred Braxton Petree, age 91, of Burlington, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Willis Augustus Braxton and the late Gertrude Isley Davis and was married for over 72 years to Edwyn Harley "E.H." Petree, who survives. Mildred graduated from Elon University with a degree in Education and was employed with Alamance County School system until retirement, teaching on the elementary level at Saxpahaw and North and South Graham. She worshiped for many years at Ireland St. Chapel and was a volunteer with Alamance Regional Medical Center for over 19 years. Mildred loved music and played several instruments and was an avid reader. Mrs. Petree is survived by her husband of the home; six grandchildren, Bonnie Houser Eggers, Rhonda Houser Balaban, Ed Houser, Joy Houser, Pamela Bunn Murgatroy and Timothy Conroy; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Gayle Braxton Lowe of Southport, NC, Doris Phillips Robinson of Hickory and Joann Phillips Monroe of College Station, TX; a brother, Raymond B. Phillips of Orlando, FL; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Robbie Eleen Petree, Betty June Petree Houser and Lynnette Petree; and two sisters, Gladys Workman and Edith Maxine Braxton Gray. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dewitt Jones. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
