Mildred Page

Mildred Page, 90, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 after a brief illness. Mildred was born June 27, 1922 into the large and loving family of George Milton and Hannah "Nettie" Allen Pender. She grew up in Alamance County and after graduating from Pleasant Grove, she worked in the textile mills. It was through this work that she met Howard Page, whom she married when she was 24. They eventually moved to the Pagetown Community in Caswell County to raise their family. Music was always a huge part of Mildred's life. She learned to play the guitar when she was a young girl and spent time performing with an all girl band, The Carolina Girls, when she was a teenager, as well as playing at home with her father and brothers after supper. She loved music and those who knew her can imagine seeing her foot tapping to the rhythm. Motherhood gave her the chance to share that music. She taught her son to play guitar and through the years, they would play and sing together. Mildred was simply goodness and light. She would find the good in times, situations, and people even those where it could be quite difficult to find. Mildred described a friend as someone who likes you the way you are, isn't always trying to change you and doesn't tell you how to think. She made those around her better and everyone felt at ease with her. She taught her children great life lessons to be happy, to be grateful, to love one another, to help others, to do the right thing, to trust in the Lord, to not take themselves too seriously and to laugh...always to laugh. She is survived by her sister, Vivian Pender Gwynn of Burlington; by her daughter Patricia Kelly and partner, Rick Mitchell of Apex; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Linney Hurley of Apex; grandson and granddaughter in law, Brian and Heather Isley; step great grandsons, Hunter and Austin Stephens and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dewey Pender, Grover Pender and Roy Pender; sisters, Daisy Pender Taylor, Louisa May Pender and Lillie Mae Pender, as well as her son, Johnny Evan Page and husband, Howard Monroe Page. Her life has been a beautiful song, and the family would like to thank the many friends and neighbors, extended family and fine caregivers who added their own melodies to that beautiful song by loving her. The family will receive friends from 6 8pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, June 17, 2013 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Darrell Massey. There will be a private burial at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery following the service. The Page family will be at their mother's home following the private burial on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 101 Centreport Drive, Suite 103, Greensboro, NC 27409 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
