Mildred Jean Sutton Langley, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 6, 2022. A native of Wayne County, she was the wife of the late Kenneth R. Langley and the daughter of Bernice Love Sutton and Minnie McClenny Sutton, both deceased.
Jean retired from the state utilities commission as a court reporter in 1993. After retirement, Jean and Kenneth traveled all over the country in their motor home. She was a long-time member of Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton, former choir member there and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church after moving to Elon. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, A-O Civitan Club and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Jean was a woman who loved her family to the utmost. She loved her precious sons, daughters in law and grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than cooking for, caring for and visiting with her family and extended family. She cared for each one as if they were the only one. One of the highlights of her year was the Sutton Family Reunion that was always held on Thanksgiving Day, where families of her 12 brothers and sisters filled the fellowship hall of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Walton Ray Sutton, James Alton Sutton, Bernice E Sutton, David A Sutton, and Claxton M. Sutton; sisters, Mittie Brock, Sallie Hollowell, Julia Fail, Mary Smith, Marcie Guill, Dorothy Carraway, and Rachel Braswell. She is survived by her two sons, Rudy Langley (Millie) and Phil Langley (Carolyn); grandchildren, Tina Pauluzzi (Patrick), Will Langley (Suzanne), Austin Brady (Tim), and Jennie Langley; and great grandchildren, Matthew Pauluzzi, Natalie Pauluzzi, and Ramona Langley.
The family would like to thank the staff at the ARMC Cancer Center and the AuthoraCare Staff for all their kind words, care and support during her battle with cancer.
A service celebrating Jean's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 25th at Fairview United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM prior to the service. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 26th at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Goldsboro, NC.
Memorial donations may be sent to Fairview United Methodist Church, 3128 Osceola Road, Elon, NC 27244 or AuthoraCare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
