Mildred Cockman

Elon, NC Mildred East Cockman, age 82, of Woodland Drive went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 2, 2010. She was a native of Guilford County and the wife of 57 years to the late Rev. Winfred Terry "Tip" Cockman. Mildred attended Mars Hill College and retired from NCNB and was a member of Elon First Baptist Church where she directed the choir for many years. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and was always by her husband's side as a partner in ministry for the glory of God. Survivors include her daughter, Cara Joan Cockman of Durham, her dog, Abby Cockman and her granddog, Zeb Cockman. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her parents, Guy Walter East and Cara Horner East Cockman and by her step father, George Tracy Cockman. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon by Dr. Howard Silver. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
