Michael "Mike" Wilburn, Sr.

Michael Lewis “Mike” Wilburn, Sr., 73, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 19, 2021 at his residence.  He was born in Person County and was the son of the late Charles Lewis Wilburn and Verna Evans Wilburn Lee.  He was married for 40 years to Patty M. Wilburn who survives.  Mike graduated from Elon College and then earned a masters degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest.  He pastored churches for 20 years and then he taught high school Spanish until he retired.  Mike was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Elon.  He enjoyed racing which included driving a car on the old dirt track at Ace Speedway and later becoming a fan and spectator of NASCAR.  Mike was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who truly cherished spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Patty; children; Michael Wilburn II (Joy), Mark Wilburn (Stephanie), Jason Wilburn (Sandra), Paige Morse (Bruce) and Dawn Buckingham; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Aaron Wilburn.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Alamance Memorial Park by Dr. David Durham.  The family will receive friends following the service.  Public viewing will be available from 1-5 PM Monday and 8-12 noon Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
