Melvin Sutton

Melvin Monroe Sutton, age 79, of 1953 Elon-Ossipee Rd., passed away Sunday September 17, 2006 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Alamance County, he was the beloved husband of Frances Futrell Sutton and son of the late John William and Lydia Isabel Loy Sutton. He was employed by Western Electric and later retired from Lucent Technologies and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Sutton was a former longtime member of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ where he served as Deacon and Trustee. He is presently a member of St. Marks Church and the Christian Workers Class. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Frances Futrell Sutton; daughter, Kaye Jones and husband David of Burlington; son, Mark Sutton and wife Robin of Elon; 4 grandsons, Davey and Adam Jones and Geoff and Tyler Sutton; 3 sisters, Alma Kernodle of Elon, Ruby Freshwater of Graham and Pauline Tatum of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Edgar Sutton and Boyd Sutton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at St. Marks Church by Rev. Ben Bishop. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mr. Sutton will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
