Mr. McKinley Duain Penland, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at UNC Hospital surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 47 years to Nancy Hill Penland who survives.
Duain was the former co-owner of Wilson Tire Service and later the owner and operator of Penland Services before his retirement. He was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and a US Army veteran serving in Germany during the Vietnam War. He as the master of many things: auto mechanic being number one, a great friend to many, a loving grandfather, and a kidney transplant recipient of 30 years from his wife Nancy. Also, an Amazing Father to his two daughters.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Nancy Hill Penland and his two daughters, Hope Foster and husband, Danny, of Burlington and Holly Penland of Wilmington; 3 grandchildren, Kameron, Hayden and Sophia Foster; two brothers, Hubert Penland and wife, Diane, of Elon and Harold Penland and wife, Susan, of Fayetteville,NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Henry and Ruth Cook Penland and a nephew, Michael Penland.
A gathering and reception to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
