Matt Mathewson, Jr.

MATT MATHEWSON Pearse LeBaron "Matt" Mathewson, Jr., age 65, of 809 Brookview Dr., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January, 18, 2014 at the Hospice Home. A native of Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Pearse LeBaron and Martha Lassiter Mathewson, Sr. and husband of 40 years to Elaine Jones Mathewson who survives. Matt attended school in Rocky Mount, graduated from Grimsley High School and attended Elon College. He was a financial consultant and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Matt was also involved in the Boy Scouts and assisted with Troop 30 and Pack 30.Matt was an active band chaperone with the WAZBB for twelve years. Mr. Mathewson was survived by his wife, Elaine Jones Mathewson of the home; three sons, Pearse L. "Matt" Mathewson, III and wife, Christy, of Gibsonville, Charles David Mathewson and wife, Mallory, of Waxhaw and John Franklin Mathewson of Elon; four grandchildren, Nathanial Keith Mathewson, Hannah Allene Mathewson, Abigail Layne Mathewson and Amanda Danielle Decker; a sister-in-law, Peggy T. Jones; and special family members, Bob and Lynn Irvin and Holly Kunselman.He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rebecca Ruth Mathewson Dean and a brother-in-law, Wayne R. Jones. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Fairview United Methodist Church by Dr. Mark Clark, pastor. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6-8pm Monday and other times at the home. Following the graveside service, the family invites everyone back to Lowe Funeral Home where they will be hosting a reception to honor Matt.
