Mary Helen Cobb, age 85, of Burlington, NC, formerly of Charleston, WV, died on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.

The only child of John R. and Gladys C. Fox of Pratt and Charleston, she was born June 3, 1934, in

Sandstone, WV. She was a member of the Holly Hill Baptist Church in Burlington.

Mary was a cum laude graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology, Montgomery, WV, with a

degree in Journalism. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where she

studied political science. She also received a three-year scholarship to the Famous Writers School, Westport, CT.  During her career, she was employed by the National Geographic Society, Washington, DC., the Appalachia Educational Laboratory, Charleston, WV, and the West Virginia Governor' s office. Throughout her professional life, she loved freelance travel writing. As a student she traveled extensively in Europe, and with her husband, she traveled in 48 states, including Alaska, and several Canadian provinces.

Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles H. Cobb; their daughter, Mary Kathleen (Casey) Cobb of Durham, NC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stanley L. and Beverly G. Cobb of Charleston, WV; and their family.

Honoring her wishes, Mary' s body has been cremated and her ashes scattered in Summers County, West Virginia.
