Burlington, NC Mary Nell Farthing Vines, age 82, of Collinwood Drive went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Blakey Hall. She was a native of Watauga County and the wife of 58 years to Thomas Brown "Brownie" Vines who survives. Mary Nell was a elementary school teacher for many years retiring as the director of Exceptional Children for the Burlington City school system. She was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the church organist for over 22 years. Mary Nell was a member of the Seekers Sunday school class and a member of the church choir. She graduated from ASU and UNCG with degrees in Education and was a member of the ADK Sorority. Mary Nell lived out her Christian faith in every area of her life and she was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Survivors include her husband, Brownie Vines of the home; daughter, Jean Vines of Burlington and a sister, Carrie Lou Stump of Bristol, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara Greene Farthing; sister, Irene Farthing and a brother, Harold Farthing. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by Rev. Bill Vickrey, Rev. Rodger Roach and Rev. Paul Traywick and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
